vienna

time spent: weekend break

discovering vienna

Vienna is the capital of Austria and it's largest city. It is a very cultural place and it is well known for it's operas and imperial palaces. It is also the birth place of the Viennoiseries, so be prepared to eat!

keep in mind

> You can walk around the city. Some places will require you to take a car, but you can either uber or take a taxi. â€‹

> If you would like to see an Opera, book your tickets before to guarantee you can see the one you want. Also, there is no need to overdress like people used to back then.

where to stay

best for location

  • Situated at the heart of Vienna's old city, the chic shopping district is about a 5 minutes walk from the hotel. As Vienna doesn't have a lot of modern hotels, this was one of the most modern I could find. Had a very nice stay.

WHERE TO EAT

Snacks and Meals

note: since we only stayed a weekend, we didn't have time to explore many restaurants.

  • Neni: Israeli restaurant at Naschmarkt. It is a great place to stop for lunch when visiting the market. â€‹

  • Figmuller: A restaurant from 1905, which serves a great and typical Schnitzel.

  • Café Central Wien: Go there for an afternoon tea, coffee, dessert or a snack.

  • Glacis Beisl: Charming and delicious restaurant. Simple, yet very flavourful. Staff is super nice.

  • Demel: Café and Chocolaterie from 1786. Delicious pastries and beautiful chocolates.

  • Patara: Upscale Thai restaurant. Very close to the hotel, amazing food if you are into thai.

If you go around Christmas time, check out the Vienna Christmas Markets and try some local sweets. We adored the Krapfen Mit.

THINGS TO DO

note: since we only stayed a weekend, we didn't have time to explore many aspects of the city. There is much more to do than on this list if you have more time.

If you are into history:

  • Mozart Apartment: Visit Mozart's apartment where he lived for 2,5 years and composed a lot of his famous pieces, including the Marriage of Figaro!

  • Schonbrunn Palace: Visit the imperial summer residence, a UNESCO heritage site. Personally, I am not supportive of zoos, but in case you are into it, there is a zoo in the palace garden as well.

If you are into art:

  • Albertina Museum: for art lovers, this museum has one of the best art collections in the world.

If you are into food:

  • Naschmarkt: super charming market, with a lot of good food to buy and restaurants to sit down for a meal.

If you are into shopping:

  • The Goldenes Quartier:  Vienna's luxury shopping district with famous brand names as Prada, Louis Vouitton, Miu Miu.
