discovering TENERIFE

A popular winter sun destination, Tenerife is one of the world's natural gems. One of the most famous Canary Islands, it offers a variety of scenery: from a national volcanic park, to mountains and paradisic beaches.

keep in mind

> It's best to rent a car, because you'll need to drive everywhere. We rented with Sixt, and were very pleased with the experience. Look for a rental within the terminal, it is the easiest to pick up/drop off.

> It can be very hot during the day, but sometimes a little chilly at night so bring a jacket.

> The best region for sun is around Adeje, but wherever you stay is easy to drive around.

where to stay

Sheraton Las Calletas

family resort

  • Well located, comfortable and overall very nice. It is a premium hotel from Marriot, not as luxurious as their sister hotel Ritz Carlton, one of the best on the island. Both are recommended, depending on how much you want to spend.

Full Meals

  • San Hô: If you like fusion restaurants, you won't want to miss this Peruvian-Japanese. Located at the Royal Hideaway Corales Resort, it has a modern setting - both indoors and outdoors. The restaurant serves a variety of delicious and unique food. Reservations are essential.

  • El Cine: a local recommendation and fresh seafood hotspot. A simple, laidback environment with fast service and amazing food. It is located near Los Cristianos beach, so make time for a stroll along the touristic shops by the sand.

  • El Molino Blanco: charming yet touristic restaurant in Costa Adeje. The restaurant serves a mix of Spanish and Canarian food and has live music. If you want a more secluded place in the restaurant, ask to sit outdoors near the entrance. Reservations are recommended.

  • iL Vecchio: Simple and modern Italian restaurant with great food and service in Costa Adeje.

  • Baobab: Spanish/Canarian restaurant in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Good for tapas! Best to go after a day in Playa Las Teresitas.

if you have time, try La Vieja. We ran out time and ended up not going there, but it was recommended everywhere.

THINGS TO DO

  • Playa Las Teresitas: 1-hour drive from Costa Adeje but definitely worth it. The beach has golden sand and beautiful mountain views around. You can have food and drinks at the little shacks on the beach, where you can also rent lounge chairs ( 3 euros each) and umbrellas. They do not offer towels, so do bring yours! After visiting Las Teresitas, go for lunch or a stroll in Santa Cruz, which is a short drive from there.

  • Playa del Duque: Premium beach in Costa Adeje, surrounded by five-stars hotels. You can also rent lounge chairs.

  • Mount Teide: The 4th highest Volcano in the world. It is definitely a must-see as it is one of the most beautiful national parks.  There you can enjoy hikes and if the weather permits, go to the top with the cable car experience. It is recommended to buy tickets online for the cable car, but be aware that it might be cancelled on the day if the weather conditions are not good enough - you can request to receive a text message warning you and they will refund you if that happens. Wear comfortable shoes and clothes that you don't mind to dirt. There are some places to eat in the park and a visitor centre where you can learn more.

  • Siam Park: Looking for a fun day at a waterpark? Siam Park is a great plan for the whole family. It offers activities all the way from a lazy river to adventures rides full of adrenaline. You can rent lockers to leave your things inside. Even though there are showers in the park, if you wish to bathe there bring your own shampoo, soap and conditioner as they only rent towels.
